RAIN Foundation
The Essex County LGBT Reaching Adolescents In Need (RAIN) Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter services to address the emergent need of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) individuals experiencing crisis leading to homelessness.
I participated in the rebranding of RAIN as a member of Rutgers University's Design Consortium, a collaborative that offers pro-bono design work to community organizations. To support their efforts in reaching new donors, foundations, grants, and stakeholders as well as to further connect with their target audience, a new identity system was designed. Their initial focus was a new logo; however they also approached me at a later date to apply the identity using the style guide we had designed.
The challenge with the RAIN foundation, as with many non-profits, was keeping costs down. The rainbow and its representation was an important element but it needed to be applied in a subtle manner that avoids cliche. To achieve the rainbow pattern, I employed color blocks with black and white photos to reduce the use of color.
